AF PDRL with less than 20 years New updated info from AFI 36-3203 Service Retirements

Good Afternoon everyone,

I hope this finds you all well. I just wanted to let you know that the newest retirement guidance in AFI 36-3203 states that those that have been permanently disability retired from Active Duty Air Force are now authorized to receive a Retirement Certificate DD Form 363AF, and AF Form 1344 for active duty and AF Form 423 for selected Reserves member Certificate of Appreciation to the spouse as well. TDRL's are not qualified for this.

This also applies for the Presidential Recognition of Retirement from Military Service DD Form 2542 and the retirement Pin. I just wanted to pass this information on to all of those that have been PDRL'd on or after 1 October 1989 or are being Permanently medically retired.

I have just been transferred from TDRL to PDRL,I was Air National Guard on Title 10 orders when my condition was diagnoised and was placed on TDRL.With my PDRL retirement orders I received a letter informing me of the TDRL to PDRL but said I wasn't eligable for a Retirement Certificate,can anyone show me where it states that in a regulation so I can reference it when I address this with DAF?Thank you for any assistance..ON the IFPEB concur letter I signed it plainly stated
1. Concur with the recommended findings.
As of 10 August 2009, members being permanently retired from the
TDRL are authorized a retirement certificate and Presidential
Certification of Appreciation​

Please allow four months for processing. If you wish a Spouse
Certificate of Appreciation (AF Form 1344), please complete the

AFI 36-3212:

"4.13. Ceremonies and Presentations of Appropriate Certificates. Commanders will conduct a suitable
ceremony before members retire or separate for disability. For an oversea member returning to the
CONUS, hold the ceremony at the oversea base. If the oversea separation base does not do this, the MPF
at the CONUS separation base arranges an appropriate ceremony before the member leaves that base.
Present the retirement or discharge certificate, along with any awards and letters of appreciation at the ceremony.
Follow these guidelines:
4.13.1. Retirement. Commanders use AFI 36-3203, Service Retirement, as used for members who
retire for age or service. When possible, the MPF gets a written statement from members who decline
a ceremony.
4.13.2. Discharge. As outlined in AFI 36-3202, Separation Documents, the member's immediate
commander will make suitable expression of appreciation on behalf of the Air Force for the member's
service.
4.13.3. Exceptions. When members can not act for themselves and are in a patient status, or are in a
VA hospital, present or mail (with suitable cover letter) the certificate and other documents to the
NOK."
