ABCMR case number

Good morning all,

I recently submitted an appeal packet to the Army Board of Correcting Military Records, from what I have read once the ABCMR receives your packet they are suppose to issue you a case number or notification saying it was received and the following action they are going to take. My packet was shipped priority mail and delivered October 13, 2020. Mind you the tracking information states it was delivered to the "front desk/reception mail room" at Arlington, for all I know it was delivered to the nearest trash can.

My question is what's the average wait time for the ABCMR to issue a case no. and send you notification saying they have received the packet? I understand this is a long, painful process and I have to wait in line just like everyone else but I just want to ensure the proper steps are being taken to address my appeal.

Any insight or shared information on a similar personal experience would be greatly appreciated, Thank You!

I sent my ABCMR appeal in February of 2019, and didn't hear a thing back until out of the blue two weeks ago I got an Advisory finding from them. From what I've been able to glean from that, the Advisory finding then goes to the Board, who can accept the finding or decide any way they want to. I have NO idea how long that is going to take, but at least (after 2 years) I have confirmation that my packet didn't find the trash can.

Also, in case your claim involves something worth fighting for in Court, mine involves a wrongful recoupment of DVA benefits from INCAP pay (ref DODI 1241.01 & Army Dir. 2017-17) that represents $15K+ in funds, the NEXT STEP would be to file a claim in the Court of Federal Claims. Keep in mind that there is a SIX YEAR statue of limitations from the day you found out you needed to file for something, and the CFC almost certainly requires an attorney if you need to go that route.

Hello I’m new to the forum but I was hoping to get some help


Just to give you my background.

I was separated in April 2002 for personality disorder, Which didn’t exist, I was diagnosed with MDD and PTSD by VA in October 2016 100% P/T.

I contacted NVLSP in 2016 they were kind enough to be me in touch with a pro Bono attorney who is awesome!

December 2018 the Army Medical Review board confirmed they received my application and evidence (put together by my attorney)

October 2019 my attorney asked for status update and we were told a Medical Advisory would be needed. I nor my attorney received a copy of it. I don’t know if it was completed or if hearing nothing about it is a good thing.

February 2021 my attorney told me to do an congressional inquiry which received an almost immediate response from the Army medical review board stating that my case is “under-going post board reviews” I don’t know what that means.

March 2021 my attorney emailed the board for an update this was the response “
Ma'am,

I cannot provide a specific timeline for completion, but can assure you that the case is being processed as quickly as possible.

You and your client will be notified directly once a decision has been rendered and finalized. Again, we appreciate your patience during this process.

I have a POC (just a nice lady who was willing to help) at the PDBR who said my case hasn’t reach her office yet, but it could possibly be there but not entered yet to be worked.

Does anyone have any experiences with the board dealing with wrongly diagnosed personality disorder cases that have turned to medical retirement?

Any help given is appreciated
 
Welcome Jkmeka!

Unfortunately I am relatively new to the whole board waiting game but there are plenty of members on this forum that have a ton of experience and knowledge on the subject. I would check out some of the other sub forums on this site too.
 
*UPDATE*

Just received a email from the ABCMR, they have issued me a docket/case number and my case is under review. It took a while but I am just glad it is under review...

How were notified of this? What does your "status" on ACTS Online say? I submitted 14 months ago and my status has been at "Board Docket" for many months now.
