I'm still learning English and I find myself lost with some terms. I have 4 years of Active Duty and was referred to MEDBOARD. I have some questions, can you help me please?

1 - I have less than 20 years of active duty, if I am considered above 30% by the PEB, what is the difference between receiving 30% or even 70% by the DOD?

2 - Does having less than 20 years on Active Duty also matter to me regarding TDRL or PDRL?

3 - I was diagnosed with MDD, Anxiety and PTSD by my psychologist, but when I was referred to Medboard, I was only given MDD and anxiety. When I asked my PEBLO, he said that PTSD is under the same umbrella and it would not make any difference, and that PTSD would give me TDRL and without it the possibility of giving PDRL is greater, is this true?

Thank you my Friends.

#1. The difference is 30% of your HIGH 3 or 70% of your HIGH 3. So your chapter 61 pension amount is much higher at 70%. However, any money from a chapter 61 pension would be offset by any VA compensation you receive. Since you have been in for only 4 years you will most likely only receive your VA compensation since your VA pay will be higher than your chapter 61 pension. The reason you want 30% or higher DOD% is to get Tricare for you and your family for life. That is main goal in your situation.

#2. It does not matter in regard to TDRL or PDRL. Though for almost everyone PTSD requires you to be TDRL. That means when you get out your retirement pay is temporary. You need to continue treatment with the VA and make sure to keep in touch with your branch's TDRL personnel. If you don't get reexamined within 3 years and placed on PDRL you will lose your retirement.

#3. Your PEBLO is correct. All mental health conditions are lumped together into one rating. So its based on symptoms and not diagnosis for what VA disability % you get. Your chances are slim to none to be PDRL regardless but yes technically PTSD is higher chance of TDRL. You see the only mental health conditions that are PDRL are ones where you have had it for a long time and are stable. Having been in 4 years you will not be PDRL. Its safe to assume regardless of the mental health diagnosis you will be TDRL if rated 30% or higher.
