    Alcohol Abuse and Depression

New procedures allow for self-referral and treatment without command knowledge, if the condition is only alcohol, there are no adverse actions (DUI, etc) and you do not require a higher level of care above outpatient. Under these conditions, it can be treated the same as any other BH condition.

    question on process

This is more for moderators, but anyone who has a clear understanding, please chime in. I am a graduate of the IDES process. Now I am a civilian, but working for the Army in an MTF. Our psych providers will frequently see SM's and make the determination that they are not able to meet...

Has anyone had DOD or VA ratings go down?

Its a hard question to answer - yes it is possible, but not too likely. you have a step or two that might help. First, wait for the ratings. In the meantime, if you do not have a service rep (DVA, VFW, etc, working with you - go see one quickly). Also, if you do not have a MEB/JAG attorney...

Constrictive Bronchilitus Diagnosis but no matching VA Rating

Yes - they will match up with the closest respiratory diagnosis. Be advised that the "high-dose" is never clearly defined, and only includes oral (not inhaled) or injected steroids. Sorry about the diagnosis, from a fellow breathing-impaired soldier. Best of luck.

    PTSD Medical Notes

[X] Occupational and social impairment due to mild or transient symptoms which decrease work efficiency and ability to perform occupational tasks only during periods of significant stress, or; symptoms controlled by medication Above was in the report - 10% it is confusing - it states both...

    New Profile System - Army

The new system gives command immediate visibility of the profile- and tracks their viewing. As a profile is extended - 60, 90, 120, 180 days etc, the command viewing goes up a level, so Battalion and Brigade commanders have visibility on company readiness overall. Its designed to support a...

    New Profile System - Army

Hi all: Just a quick reminder - as of June, the new profile system for the Army does not have PULHES ratings for temporary profiles - the only time your PULHES changes is with a permanent profile. Temporary profiles are still give - they are just in narrative form on the system, and more...

    Oxygen use

That is the rating system. I use oxygen for as needed with exertion, but the fact that I am prescribed oxygen at all contributed to my 100%. Once a year you have to demonstrate continued need, which is usually pretty easy if you do actually need it. I use mine with exercise, and light yard...

Asthma and "high dose" corticosteroids definition

The Advair should get a rating of 30%. You should at least ask for a reconsideration. Have the attorney write it up point by point to make it easy for them. best of luck.

Found Unfit Wondering If I can Receive Both VA & RETIREMENT

Do you have 20 years in? If not no, not usually. You will most likely have the retirement offset by the VA. However, you will be eligible for other retirement benefits, including commissary/px.

Have any of you ever had TMS or ECT treatment before?

Good. I haven't seen TMS work for everyone, but for some it does make a dramatic difference. On the IPEB, it shouldn't, but if you get TMS, I would have your PEBLO forward that information up so the VA can consider it in any rating. Good luck!

Have any of you ever had TMS or ECT treatment before?

Bring the topic up with your psychiatrist. In my area, only a few providers offer TMS, but we have had a couple of very depressed soldiers have good results. ECT has become more recognized as a tool for intractable depression, and also is being used more frequently. I have not hear of...

Sleep apnea and Coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever) rated together?!

Since they are both respiratory, they may be claiming pyramiding, but I am not sure that should apply.

How rank plays into being found fit or unfit?

I was in a WTU with several other officers, and we were all found unfit ( LT to COL). It depends on the injury, but higher ranks frequently have more resources and contacts to fight certain issues. I don't think this happens all the time, but it can. It seemed that the focus was primarily on...

    Denied MEB and need HELP.

It is not unusual for a psychological exam involving any time of pain to include measures of effort. There are certainly psychological issues that factor into migraine severity, but this does NOT make them any less real. Many illnesses also have psychological components that affect how a...

    Lung issues /Random Asthma Diagnosis

Has your profile been updated to the new system? Given what you have described, you should be non-deployable in terms of the new everyone-anywhere focus on deployments. The commander has less discretion after a certain point with the new profiles.

    Denied MEB and need HELP.

Unless they are ready to accuse you of outright lying and malingering, you should not be denied for a "possible anything". Talk to the patient advocate and possibly the Director of Psychologist Health. At a minimum, you deserve a new evaluation or a firm decision on their part as to...

    AR 40-501 Rewrite

I don't know from a legal perspective. From other changes, I would guess that the guidance forward would begin on the effective date of the signature, but would likely include a process for completing under the old standards and then starting the new. I think this is most likely, that they...
