Yes, absolutely. They cannot hold the fact that you're on a medical board against you. Case in point: My buddy is on a board and got selected for SSgt. In the Marine Corps, SSgt is a pretty competitive rank to get, especially in his MOS field.

The whole PEB process is pretty subjective. My gunny and I sent our medboards off at the same time. He got his results in March, and is out on 31 May. My stuff is still at the VA.

His 90% rating for the VA is likely greater than any DOD disability compensation he would receive. At this point, I would imagine that appealing would only waste time and jeopardize your 50%. I feel your pain, Firefighter. The PEB accepted my package 29 DEC, and my PEBLO/MSC will not tell me anything. They won't tell me if I'm fit or unfit, where my package is at, etc.

Jesus, just be nice having a PEBLO that actually keeps you informed. My package was accepted by the PEB on 29 Dec, and I still haven't heard anything one way or the other.

Do you all actually receive the unfit memos?

No idea. The peblos don't tell us anything.

Yeah, the PEB found me unfit and sent my package to the VA. It's been there for a few weeks...

How long does the VA have to rate once they receive it from the PEB?

Indeed, they will collect the fees. Then, later on you can apply for a refund, and they will refund them to you (as long as you have a claim in the works) https://www.veteransunited.com/valoans/va-funding-fee-refund/

I called the VA, and they said that if I use the home loan guaranty, and later have a service connected disability rating of 10% or more they'll refund it.
