  • Yes that would be correct you would then be taxed at 25% of that for federal and whatever percentage your state taxes lump sums. Look it up on google by typing in flat rate tax percentage for your state. It will normally be about 6% unless you are in texas or a state that has no income tax. So a good estimate would be subtract 31% for taxes.

    You need to have a VA Award to be eligible. You should submit your findings and orders as a result of your PEB, DD214, awards indicating combat service, award of Purple Heart, and any other documents or evidence that shows your combat-related injuries. The list is not all-inclusive, that is just an idea of the types of evidence you want to submit.
