Why not ask for the PTDY, it’s paid time that will help in your transition. If your commander has been supportive I bet he/she approves it. The worst that can happen is they say no.
I went to my county VET center, the guy who helps people with submitting a claim was able to log into the VA system and see the status of my case/proposed ratings on the VA side.
In my case I was specific telling them I have 15 years TAFMS and around 7800 points toward retirement. Seems this is one of those issues where you get a different answer every time you ask the question. I know a few people who are getting paid and a few others who are not.
