Did you ever receive a good answer to this? I will be in this process soon and was wondering myself. I was also told by the VA rep at IDES that it is essentially a new claim and there is a chance for different ratings.

Makes sense. I have heard as well that TERA will put you on the permanent retired list right off the bat vice being on the temporary for a while before transitioning to permanent. Do you know if this is true? How long have they told you that your TERA will take to be approved?

So what exactly is the benefit of TERA over the medical retirement. It prolongs an already ridiculously long process so I want to be sure it’s worth it as I’m going to be at that stage in a few weeks. Thanks.

Yes. You can receive SSDI while active. I won’t get into specifics because the variants are far too vast suffice it to say I know first hand. Good luck, it’s not easy to be approved, but tenacity, if truly deserving will serve you well.
