PRIOR ENLISTED OFFICER AND RETIREMENT PAY

Does anyone know if the "E" identifier/scale that prior enlisted officers pay was calculated during active duty is used to figure out high 36 for TDRL/PDRL retirement pay? Thanks all!!

The high 36 is just that, the highest paid (base pay) 36 months of your career. For most of us, it's the last 36 months. If your last 36 months were paid at the E rate or "regular" rate, your pay will be based upon the corresponding base pay. Don't know how long you have been commissioned, but the E identifier falls off once you hit 0-4. However, an 0-4 with prior E time typically has a higher base rate than other 0-4's, purely based on time in service.

Well, I see some positive outcomes of your potential DFAS monetary error.

It's called DFAS back pay and you may receive a substantial amount if a validated error was indeed made by DFAS.

No worries...it's all good!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

DFAS had my numbers wrong before I retired as well and I was concerned when I went in for my SBP brief and the number they based the premiums on were about 500 less per month than I had calculated. However, my first retirement pay check was the correct (higher) amount. I commissioned in 01 (early year) as well (after almost 7 years enlisted) and had my first tour in Afghanistan during Anaconda as a 2nd Lt two weeks after 9/11. Man, time sure flies!

It's weird since my LES's were always correct on this issue. On my retirement orders from the PDHA it has a line that states "has completed 4 years of active service as enlisted or WO." Next to that it states: "Non Applicable." I had thought that since this was not a yes or no, it simply did not apply to/for medical retirement. I guess my assumption was incorrect and I'll have to get this figured out. My hope is that this is a simple call to DFAS, since I was in the system as an E during my service, and doesn't require corrections through the board of corrections. Fingers are crossed!!!

Are they paying you less than what your high three average was? Or are you concerned that your retirement orders list a NA for prior enlisted service?
