Navy Timeline - Millington, TN

I am about to hit the one-year mark as well and as of today I am 40 days into QA. It feels like I am stuck running in place with the finish line right in front of me. My military career is over, that's a given. I won't promote, and I am getting out, there is nothing for me here anymore, but I can't enroll in college or set up the next part of my life if I have no timeline to work off of. The waiting sucks and is draining because all of us are just ready to transition but it would at least be better with reliable updates and timelines and a way to track things so we can transition properly. It is almost setting all of us up for failure with the possibility that you may get findings at any random point and be gone a month later with barely any time to set yourself up. Yet the military treats us like we are low priority and don't matter.
Well, one thing we can do is rely on each other in this forum to talk and give valued updates when they come in. Just keep doing what you are doing, and like dambamblues stated, if your leadership continues to act the way they are then elevate those concerns to a higher authority. The mentality that leadership has when they see a person going through this process of "they are getting out, they aren't valuable or worth it" is such crap. This all goes back to the little to no oversight this process has. I don't know if you have the days or are waiting, but I recommend taking some extra leave days and doing your favorite things. In my own case, I just submitted some for a week in March just to get out of the area and enjoy some time away.

This forum does help although it gives me false hope sometimes seeing people with fast timelines lol. Sadly, I only have a month of leave and I want to sell at least 2 weeks back, so I am saving the other 2 weeks for terminal. I used a ton of my leave late last year when I thought I was close to getting out. Realistically though, other than a few circumstances, I haven't seen anyone in QA for more than 60 days so at worst I should have my findings in 2-3 more weeks max. I think having a solid EAS date will ease a lot of the stress.

VA rating letter dated 22JAN
Spoke to PEB on 09 Feb and was told "just got your findings back, 3-4 more weeks"
PEBLO sent an email today stating that my QA phase started 22FEB.

So wtf is going on?!?!

That is odd, I would have thought QA would have started on Feb 9 if by ratings you meant the unfit finding. My VA case closed on December 3rd though, and I didn't get my unfit decision until January 17th which is when I assumed QA started.

I agree with Wish, that is odd. Also, I think we have all figured out that the "3-4 more weeks" is the generic timeline they give unfortunately. My case went into QA January 22nd to give you an idea. Also, I called the PEB last week and was told 3-4 more weeks after I was told 2-3 more weeks 3 weeks ago.

Reaching out to multiple sources I was able to get some better info.
VA case was closed 22JAN
"Movement on your package" Feb 6th
Feb 9th- called PEB who "just got stuff back from VA.
"In QA post VA" as of 22 Feb report- told its commonly inaccurate.
Was told any day or a few months.

I'm only hoping I get out of here before June!

I tried to start preparing my checkout process and some forms today so when the board does come back with findings, I have a head start. Unfortunately, my admin office denied my request and stated they need a confirmed date of separation or retirement before I will have the chance to start any of my paperwork. They also said that I will need to complete medical exams...clearly, they do not understand that the MEB phase takes care of those. Have any of you found a work around for this issue?

I did the taps classes online. Speak to other people going through this and get a copy of the separation checklist. It will show everything you need to have together. Go to fleet and family service directly for capstone. Print leave chit, but leave the dates blank. I have everything done already and ready to go once orders hit. Also maybe try talking to other admins to see what they say or if they can get you the check list. Most things you do to get it together and not admin.

Thank you! I have completed TAPS and Capstone with FFSC. I will get my leave chit ready and have that good to go. I guess it is just getting all the forms typed up and ready to put in a folder once that official message does drop.
Also, do you plan on taking any house hunting / job hunting TDY IAW MPM 1320-020? Your reply reminded me to start the 1306 for that.

Yes I'm taking the house and job junting. I'm thinking of selling back all my leave to have extra cash after I get out. I still have to do more research to see if its worth it and how it works on getting my BAH.

CPPA Separation/Retirement clerk here. You can absolutely "start" early, and I usually have my med board people do just that so they can completely utilize their terminal leave and job/house hunting.

- If you let dental know you're getting out soon they will usually do your pre-separation exam ahead of time and when you receive your 1900 it'll just be walking in there to have them sign it.

- You're correct medical is not required it'll usually state that in the PDRL/TDRL/Med Sep MSG with your out date so read that and highlight it if your admin is giving you any trouble about it.

- If you're PDRL/TDRL make sure you complete the MOST RECENT version of the DD-2656 form, that'll be your survivors benefit plan, do it digitally and read the instructions on the last three pages to make sure you're doing it correctly. (Your command should have an SBP counselor if you have any further questions and there's videos for it online)

- DD-2648 is what you'll get once you complete your TAPS/Capstone from your CCC's as soon as you're done with that process get your DD2648 in hand, I've had mine the last 8 months just remember it's only good for a year.

- Print out your VMET and JSTs and have those ready to go. PSD only requires one but having both only helps and it's really easy to get ahold of.

- Preemptively ready your terminal leave chit and job/house hunting chit, my command doesn't approve them until all other documents are in with admin but regardless fill out your chit (excluding dates) so it's ready to route as soon as you've completed everything else and have your message.

That'll leave just filling out that 1900/1 with your admin which can also be found on MyNavyHR, I wouldn't necessarily advise filling it out yourself unless you know exactly what you're doing or have someone else's to work off of. Additionally, PSD wants as many of the KSDs filled out digitally as possible to avoid mistakes on their end, and if you do write in it later for date write as neatly and cleanly as possible. ALSO CHECK NSIPS AND CHECK THAT YOUR AWARDS ARE VERIFIED AHEAD OF TIME OTHERWISE THEY WONT BE ON YOUR DD214.

Hope this helps, and remember you are your strongest advocate when it comes to your separation/retirement, ask the hard questions and if it doesn't make sense remember to ask why, they're supposed to be there to help you and if they're not helping, make it impossible for them not too. I can't stand lazy admin so make them work for you and best of luck.

Unfortunately selling your leave back only includes base pay not bah or any other entitlements.

You can calculate it like this.
(BASE PAY FOR A MONTH divided by 30) times (Leave days left over)

and remember it's taxed as well and can take 30-60 (usually 60) days to process after your final day in the navy.

Oooof. Guess what I've always heard is true, it's not a good deal.

I’m in the same boat as you a little.
VA claim closed- Nov 7
Was told found unfit- Feb 27
Just called the PEB, was informed my case was at the VA, he said once it comes back then I’ll go into “QA”. He said about 3-4 weeks to have my findings sent to my PEBLO once they receive my case back from the VA. My question is this timeline not “realistic?”

My VA case closed on 19Dec and I just got my findings yesterday. From talking to the PEB I learned that they have to call and request your file from the VA and sometimes it takes them a while to do so. I called back on the 9th and they told me 3-4 more weeks so I would think before the end of next week you’d hear something
I may have missed it but is there a timeline or estimate on from when the PEB sends/request your file from the VA? As in how quick/slow the VA sends to the PEB.

Thanks for the info. Looks like I will use it now. lol

Have any of you been able to get ahold of the PEB this week and receive a status update by chance?

It seems that your case could have possibly been sent back to the VA for further ratings/consideration. While it slows down your timeline it is a good thing as far as getting proper ratings.
