Should I be concerned if the “issues on appeal” tab in Vets.gov shows the wrong issue?

I appealed a decision I believe to be incorrect and am waiting for a decision review officer to go over my case. When I check my case status on vets.gov, it shows the issue on appeal as being “severance of service connection,” but I’m actually appealing the fact that the VA is wrongly recouping my severance pay, not that they’ve severed service connection for my disability. Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it just a clerical error that will be rectified when the DRO goes over my case? Thank you all for your continued help and service.

Based upon my previous successful DoVA appeals and current involvement with the DoVA appeals process, it has been my experiences that the DoVA shall eventually correct the "error" albeit it may result in an extended wait time (e.g., another adjustment of the projected completion dates) as this action occurred during my own current DoVA appeal. As such, your specific DoVA appeal may not have any extended wait times added so I would not be concerned at this point.

In the interim, you can contact the DoVA via their 1-800 # for an additional explanation and/or log onto eBenefits and select the "Chat with the VA" option in the lower righthand corner to request an explanation of the information as displayed on vets.gov. Note that the eBenefits' Live Chat is available from Monday to Friday at 10:00 am to 6:00 pm EST. Take care!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer!"

Thank you very much for taking the time to give such a thorough response. I called today and was assured that the DRO would be able to see what I’m actually appealing, I guess it’s just hard for me to have TOO much faith that people will work this sort of stuff out unless its all as clear as possible. Anyway, thanks again.

Indeed, you are quite welcome! :)

For sure, I definitely comprehend; it's pleasing to read that you were able to receive a reassuring confirmation from the DoVA at this point. Take care!
