When Should I receive my 199 after being found unfit?
In my particular situation, I waited 74 calendar days for receipt of the DA Form 199 albeit that was over 13 months ago!
Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."
Best Wishes!
So after doing research, I do not think I will receive the DA199, Im currently in the Marines and I think it is a different paper. So after being found unfit on 30 Jan, what is next in this grueling process?
The va rating process, which will take anywhere from 4 weeks to 2 years. (average of about 120 days), then you will get your findings and official recommendation of retention/separation/retirement. you will have 10 days to elect to accept, accept but request a va reconsideration (10 to 90 days 45 being average currently), or elect to go to a formal board. Upon completion of a formal board (typically within 30 days of election), you will have to accept or choose to fight to service secretary which could take 4 days to 2 years(no current average I know of exept AF is about 4 months). if you choose to accept, you can then request a va reconsideration or not.
Once you accept all findings, then you wait for orders out, which you can count on being out within 90 days or less. You command can allow/deny 20 days permissive tdy and any leave you have accrued can be used or sold back up to a maximum of 60 days sold within your entire career. sold leave is paid at the rate of your base pay minus entitlements and then taxed at 28% similar to a bonus payment.
Once out, you file your DD214 with the VA and it will take approx 60 days (current average) to 6 months or more for them to start paying you, in the meantime if you were found by the DoD to be 30% or more and retired, you will be paid the DoD retirement rate.
Okay, But if I went to the Formal Board and was found unfit, do they still elect for retention?
if you are officially found unfit, and you go to formal you are either fighting for retention (to be found fit) OR to have other conditions found as unfitting, Say they find you at 20% for a knee condition, but fit for a back condition, and you believe the back should be unfitting as well that would be one fight. I believe you could also fight for perm. vs temp. retirement at a formal, but thats above my scope of knowledge to comment on. Keep in mind I use the term "officially unfit" because unless you have an unfit memo in hand, you are not unfit yet. (yes technically your unfit, but anything can happen until the board officially concludes which is once your ratings are back and they assign them to your conditions)
I had my Formal 30 Jan 2013 and was found unfit; what is the next step in this process? I called the VA and they said they sent the package out to the PEB on 5 Feb. What does that mean? Thank you so much for your help.
IF you were found unfit at formal and not previously (i.e. original IPEB came back as fit for duty), then your package would go to the VA for ratings, which would take anywhere from 45 days to a ayear of more with 120-140 being an average(depends entirerly on which office), if the ratings come back and you agree, then you follow the same timeline as above, or if they come back and you disagree with any of the ratings you were found unfit for, you would then apply for a VARR (va recon) takign anywhere from 6-9 weeks average to 4+ months. again depends on which RO takes it.
all other timelines are the same.

Thank you so much for your help! Have a good day!!
really getting irritated been waiting over three weeks and nothing from transproc

Have you contacted your PEBLO? Has the USAPDA accepted your findings?really getting irritated been waiting over three weeks and nothing from transproc

It took two days for the PDA to accept my findings once they received them, technically this is when you are entered into TRANSPROC, however you are supposed to be counseled and have three days to sign the counseling statement. Once you sign it, that would be one the new start day for the 90 day countdown.
I have been in the TRANSPROC for 30 full days right now, however I am not scheduled for my briefings yet, from what I gather by asking, they are currently scheduling JBLM at least a month out. I was advised that I will be scheduled in April.
I currently have something like 70 days of leave so it looks as if I will be selling it back.
That said, I am in the USAPDA National Capital Region.
