Hello, new member here!
I have a few questions. I received a letter from the VA saying I could be eligible for the PDBR program.
My story:
Was in Army, stationed at Ft Stewart. I got sick, went to sick call and Lt said nothing wrong just the flu. So after 2 IV's they gave me 24hr quarters. Needless to say, my temp was over 105 and vomiting every 2-3 mins. Went back to work, E-8 told me to go home and go straight to sick call next morning. I did, temp still over 105. Same Lt saw me, cussed me out for wasting their time. 2 more IV's and 24 hr quarters. That night, I was so sick and delirious, that I went to civilian hospital. They admitted me and gave me antibiotics. The doc comes in and told me I would not have made it through the night. I was drowning from bacterial pneumonia. Anyway, army wanted to medboard me out, I wanted to stay in but I couldn't run or pass the PT run test. My right lung was damaged. I went from running 6min miles to 12 min miles. So got med boarded, army had me on TRL 30% and after a year, went back and said they would submit to retire me. Board came back asked me for proof that I was taking the 6 or 7 meds. I couldn't, so they put me out at 0% service connected disability with severance. I was released from AD on Jan 17th 2003. VA gave me 60% disability. What would happen if I try the PDBR and Army says too bad no change and VA then changes me to a lower rating?
I feel like I was cheated by the Lt. But I don't think I should try to "get" more from the Army. My wife says I earned it and did my time ad sacrifice for the good so I should be compensated. Confused on what to do and confused on the end results good or bad. Any advice? Thanks
