@Superdude23 It depends on when your NLT date is and how long it takes your orders to get approved. I received my orders 2 days later. On I signed my 199 on 29 August. On the same day I went to Transition/Retirement Services for a retirement date which wasn't in the system until that next week 4 September (due to holiday I assume). My date that was in the system was for 2 December but my counselor said I would need it changed due that I only had 35 leave days plus 20 PTDY totaling 55.

So I had to take a form to Commander to sign to request the date my counselor gave me which was now 21 November. The same day I had it signed and took it back and my orders were ready the next day which was 5 September.

So I was told today that I needed to take aprox 5 weeks to clear are they making you follow these guidelines too because I know it wont take this long to clear

120 days today since I received my unfit letter. My peblo never updates me with anything. My ebenefits still says " documents requested past due".. It has said that since May. What is the best way to check on my case? My peblo is saying I probably will not see anything for another 100 to 130 days. I honestly think she if full of shi$

I don't know - I'm at day 155, and my PEBLO just said 30-90, but could be longer. I don't think they know for sure, but its taking longer - he has several over 200 days.... I sent a POA to the Seattle DAV last week, to see if they might be able to tell me something.

Honestly it seems for those of us that hit the 120 day mark it becomes a guessing game. If you don't have a DAV rep yet Id suggest getting one and seeing what they can find out for ya. That is what I had to do because like your Peblo mine is useless too. All he ever told me was to be patient and keep waiting. Once I got a DAV rep I did initially see some movement in my case within a few weeks then it went stagnant again and passed the date the VA had on my case the end of May. 2 months in the middle of July I finally got fed up with everything and started exploring all options. I got the Ombudsman on post involved with my case as well as filling a Congressional. That seemed to get things going again as 1 day short of 8 months of my unfit memo going to the VA I went in for follow up exams. I am now at day 231 and counting and my case just moved back into the prep for decision phase again today. So I am hoping that maybe by the end of the month I finally hear something back. If not I am going for Congressional round 2.

If I was you I would get a DAV rep and see what they can see on your case and if they can get it moving. Id give them about a month or so. I would then contact your Ombudsman on post to see what they can do about it. They are able to really stir the pot so to speak. If your still not getting anywhere start a Congressional but realize when you do they will pull your packet from where ever it is to give to the person who deals with Congressionals to respond to them so it may slow it down. Like I said mine was 2 and half months past the suspense date the VA had on my packet and I contacted my DAV rep first who sent email's to the people at the VA who had my packet and was blown off by them that is why I ended up doing a Congressional. Let the other channels try and work on it first it will be the fastest route possible.

Sorry it was little long winded but I just wanted to try and give you all options for the fastest recourse possible. Also remember when going off Ebenefits it is not always updated in a timely matter.

WooHOOOOOOO Day 231 and it looks like Im finally done. Checked an hour ago and it was at Prep for decision just checked again while trying to look at when Ill get my Book money and it is at pending approval. Yeah now I just got to wait and call the DAV back in like an hour or so when my rep is available and hopefully find out what my proposed ratings are. Now to wait on the 199. Once I get that time to go back to Drum and get out of the Army and continue college.

@Superdude23 It may take another 5 weeks until youre on terminal leave but 5 weeks to clear is out of the question. You only get 10 days to clear and most Retirement Officers will adjust your Retirement date to make sure you transition smoothly. So one week you will sign your 199. Then in a few days you will have a date and receive orders. Then to make sure you have all your mandatory briefing they may have to adjust your date some being that some briefings are only certain days and hours. (Example: Ft. Braggs retirement brief is ONLY the 1st Monday of each month)

Then you would clear for 10 days and go straight into PTDY and terminal leave.

@dwagneremt Im sorry to tell you this but most DAV reps WILL NOT give you ratings. They will just tell you what is going on with your case and its current status.

Chris1103,

I called the PEB Office that did my unfit memorandum, and the SFC I spoke with after explaining my situation and the lack of communication from my PEBLO and my MSC Coordinator, he pulled my packet up and let me know it was being reviewed by the rating team (confirmed status) and that if I didn't hear anything or I had continued issues with either my PEBLO/MSC answering calls, or emails to call him back in 10-15 days and he would pull up my social again and see what was going on. This may help you get something better of an answer, I also don't like hearing soon, or be patient. I am tracking to be patient but it's like at least let me know where my packet is in the process. So I ventured out on my own after no assistance with PEBLO, MSC, VA number or the IRIS inquiry.

Best of luck.

Indeed, today is a good day with the receipt of my revised DA Form 199 as follows:
  • Previous proposed ratings were DoD 60% TDRL and DoVA 100% :)
  • -
  • Current proposed ratings are DoD 70% TDRL and DoVA 100%! :D
Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Congrats on your increase!

Yesterday, I spoke with a DAV for the first time. They are going to send me a packet. I was told that Seattle RO's current claim processing times are 120-180 days post retirement. I hope it's more like 120 since I will be at the 120th day mark in 13 days!

Was the Bump up to 70 what you were hoping for, or were you hoping for higher?

Well its official Im finally officially done with VA portion of the IDES process now just waiting on the 199 to show up and then transpoc and move on with life. I was able to get my ratings out of my rep its going to be 10% DOD and 20% VA. Unfortunately my Peblo has no idea on how long it may be until I see my 199 the ratings were sent back to the PEB yesterday. He said they have to review them and make a decision then. So hopefully next week Ill be heading back to Drum to at least start outprocessing. The nice thing is I already have the CIF stamp so it should only take me a few days to clear the rest of post and then back on leave.

Medic604 if your IDES and your at day 282. I dont know how your still being patient at this point the only thing I didnt see on your list of people to try was your post Ombudsman. Im not sure what helped finally move mine along but I had the DAV email them, the Ombudsman emailed them and my Congressional hit within days of each other something in there finally got the wheels moving it took about a month from that point to finally get everything back and that was with waiting for the VA to schedule a follow up exam which took about a week to do. I wish you luck and hope you hear something back soon.

Seems to me the DAV really have no freakin clue in the world either. Post retirement 90 days now, and still nothing. DAV says should have been done last week of Aug, first week of Sept.. Well nope, now it's just call back every thirty days. Why is it so hard for the VA to finalize ratings? I understand they have a lot of claims, but just not managing them very effectively. They've dug themselves too much of a hole or what? As it sits right now I'm missing out on $1700 a month because of them, and only $500 of it will be back paid since the unemployment chose to reduce my weekly benefit amount by $300 since I'm drawing DoD pension for disability. I'll be grateful when the claim is finished and I hopefully never have to deal with them again...

Not to steal the thread but this "DAV" thing everyone is talking about- I went to the website, what does DAV stand for? Also, do you have to be a member with them to get assistance? The membership was $250 and that is a lot. I'm only 2 weeks out from my "unfit" finding. When is an appropriate time to contact DAV ?
