The "Friend Solar System" is an exclusive feature available to snapchat plus planets subscribers that provides a gamified, visual representation of your closest connections on the platform. In this system, you are positioned as the "Sun," and your top eight "Best Friends" are displayed as planets orbiting around you.

How the Planetary Order Works

The ranking uses the order of the real-world solar system to indicate the intensity of your interaction with specific friends. Proximity to the Sun signifies a higher level of digital engagement:

  • Mercury: #1 Best Friend (most frequent interaction)
  • Venus: #2 Best Friend
  • Earth: #3 Best Friend
  • Mars: #4 Best Friend
  • Jupiter: #5 Best Friend
  • Saturn: #6 Best Friend
  • Uranus: #7 Best Friend
  • Neptune: #8 Best Friend (least frequent interaction among the top eight)
These rankings are dynamic and calculated based on your recent activity, including Snaps, chats, and calls. They do not measure the emotional depth or quality of a relationship, but rather the volume and consistency of digital communication.

How to Access and Use the Feature

Because the Solar System is an optional, private feature, it is turned off by default for new Snapchat+ subscribers. To begin using it:

  1. Navigate to your profile in the Snapchat app.
  2. Access the Snapchat+ management page.
  3. Locate the "Solar System" option and toggle it on.
  4. To view a friend's status, open their profile and tap the "Best Friends" or "Friends" badge with the gold ring.

Privacy and Considerations

  • Private Experience: The Solar System is a private affair. Your friend is not notified of their specific position unless you choose to share that information with them.
  • Dynamic Nature: Rankings change automatically as your interaction patterns shift. A drop in ranking does not mean a friendship has ended; it simply reflects a change in app usage.
  • Social Well-being: Snapchat has acknowledged that some users find ranking features like this stressful. As a result, the feature remains entirely optional, and users can toggle it off at any time via the Snapchat+ settings.
