Gender dysphoria mid med board

So I have a friend with Gender issues who is currently getting med boarded for other issues (recently had VA exams). They were able to get therapy through EAS temporarily, but has since switched to military doctors. If they started bringing up their issues in therapy sessions is it likely people would shift gears to an admin discharge or see them as possibly malingering to get out (one of the symptoms of their disease is pain in excess of physical signs)?

Tough question. If your friend is being boarded for other conditions, that should make them safe because an admin discharge cannot trump a MEB/PEB. On the other hand, the military has been known to do the wrong thing. I would hate to see your friend side tracked and chartered out. In the long run, they would likely win, but that will not help them get better in the short term.

If it were me, I would not bring up the other issues until unless I was in danger, or unbearable pain. All it takes is one or two stupid people in leadership positions to misinterpret a regulation and the soldier pays.

Welcome to the PEB Forum! :)

I concur with sound advice...

Moreover, stay the course and remain strong throughout interactions while trying to secure the best solution for oneself and family within the DoVA.

Thus, please remember that possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer.

Best Wishes!

Thanks for the advice, their (yea, I'm keeping this joke going) health condition has wrecked almost every joint in their body along with many other issues and has made everything in their life harder to bear, but I see the wisdom in them holding off.
