    Medical Retirement Payment

The Army will cover the gap until you VA pay start. Obviously, it will be for the DOD amount not the VA amount.

Random RETSPCL in navy fed account?

This is the retirement pay kicking in to cover the period you did not get VA pay. It is legit and yours. Moving forward you will only receive your VA pay if it covers your entire pension amount.

    Reassessment Questions

I was seeing the VA but still had to do an exam for TDRL. My understanding is that if you get an exam by the VA specifically for the condition for reevaluation they can use that. Just seeing the VA was not enough for me to avoid reexam with the army.

What is the severance tax deadline?

Your PEBLO likely has no idea what he’s talking about. You’ll file your tax return for 2023 and get back any extra that you paid in. Now it’s possible if you’re not going to work next year that you’d have a lower bracket and would get more of the severance tax back, but it’s unlikely to make a...

    Commanders Statement

I agree with chaplain and Provis. It still may be worth your time to ask for a discussion with the commander and see if he’ll reconsider. I typed mine up and sent it to the commander. I realize that’s an option not available to everyone, but perhaps a discussion could be helpful. If nothing...

    PDRL Spouse Benefits Upon Death

Term is life is often a better option than SBP if you’re still insurable after the Med retirement and VA process. Hindsight is 20-20 but often times it is best to start the term life process PRIOR to medboard or the BDD process for those not Med boarding but just ending their service another way.

Question on TDRL Re-Exam & VA C&P Exam Process?

It is the Army. They must decide fitness and provide your final rating.

Question on TDRL Re-Exam & VA C&P Exam Process?

I had a phone call re-eval last month with the army for PTSD and multiple other mental health conditions. It was basically a semi-structured conversation on how life has been since I retired. I was honest about successes and failures in work, school, and relationships. I maintained 70%, which...

19 years 3 months, will I have time to make it to 20 years?

You should have no problem getting to 20 by exhausting of all your appeal options and waiting the max number of days to sign and return any paperwork.

Severance pay along with VA Question

I don’t know the entire recoupment process, but after it’s paid back you’ll be entitled to your full 4k ish a month from the VA.

Severance pay along with VA Question

Unless it is deemed combat related then you will pay it back out of your VA compensation.

Officer < 10 years: TERA in lieu of Med Retirement

No. It would be a dollar for dollar offset. Some can be recouped via CRSC if combat related. There’s tons of CRSC info on the boards here.

Officer < 10 years: TERA in lieu of Med Retirement

If you get medically retired (30% or more) you are retired in your current grade as an officer with your high 3 determine your actual pension. No 10 year requirement.

    Dual process hold up

You would be absolutely nuts to not choose the Medboard if the general decided on that route. I know the waiting sucks, but you could be turning down 70 years of benefits, because you’re fed up in the moment. Play the long game here.

    CRSC Affected by PEB Results?

I’m really becoming pessimistic about MRSA ever passing. It seems to have lost a lot of steam. I hope I’m wrong.
