Hey, I just recently discovered this forum, so if im doing this wrong. Please let me know so I can fix it.
Little bit about me, active duty fire protection, ive had GI issues for a couple years now and ive been in the AF for right about 3.5 years. Been pursuing to figure out my stomach issues. Had a stool sample done recently and fought to get a proper follow up for it. Doc just told me at my appointment today he is very concerned I have celiac disease and is referring me to a GI specialist to get a biopsy done to confirm or deny.
If it is celiac disease, ive read quite a bit on here and reddit, and with my doc mentioning the high likelihood of a MEB following suit. I also have diagnosed moderate to severe sleep apnea and am on CPAP (FD doesn't help with sleep getting emergency calls in the middle of the night.) I've missed a couple of calls due to stomach issues and that's what sparked me to push so hard to resolve it.
If it is celiac disease and a MEB starts, I read that they will take in consideration all diagnosis for my dod rating, and if it exceeds 30% than its guaranteed retirement, if its less than 30% then its separation. Im somewhat worried on the outcome. I cant say I necessarily enjoy the Airforce, but I love the fire service. Bases off of the hives experience and knowledge, what can I or should I expect to come if it is a confirmed diagnosis of celiac disease on the Airforce side of things? I've already done some solid rabbit hole research over the last 10 hours since talking to my doc.
TLDR: Possible celiac disease, MEB? Other in service diagnosis add to the DOD rating? Should I expect to seperate/medically retire or fight to stay in?
